Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia joined as Principal, DHS Kanoi College in 19th June, 2015 and breaking the earlier record with the college family, he was able to upgrade the college to ‘A’ Grade through NAAC assessment during 2nd and 3rd February 2023. With its glorious existence of 77 years DHSK College has already earned fame with the titles of Green Audited College, Clean College, Best Disciplined College and Clean College of Assam. DHSK College has received the 2nd Best Clean College award in the country from the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in ‘Rashtriya Swachhwa Bharat Puraskaar-2017’ and ‘Swachhata Award’ from Dibrugarh District Administration in 2018 and three times Best Disciplined College Award in Dibrugarh University Youth Festival in 2020, 2022 & 2023 and ‘Clean College of Assam’ award from Dibrugarh Nagarik Mancha. Nehru Yuva Kendra, Dibrugarh Branch felicitated the college for its remarkable contribution to the field of Swacchata and along with that the college has also received the ISO-9001: 2015 certificate for high quality education. To save the electricity as a part of green energy 40-kilowatt solar energy electricity is used. In addition to that 600-watt solar energy electricity is used in the front side of the college. Work is in progress towards 100 % green energy in phased manner.

Dibrugarh District Employees Association conferred Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia with Karmasurjya -2020 title given by then Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Sarbananda Sonowal. Popular Magazine of Majuli ‘Palakh’ conferred Dr. Saikia with ‘Dinabandhu’ title which was given by the Satradhikaar of Sri Sri Dakhshinpat Ashrami Satra, Sri Sri Janardan Deva Goswami on 3rd April 2023, Swahid Kushal Konwar Smriti Rakhya Samiti conferred Dr Saikia with ‘Dibaru Hitaishi’ honour on the occasion of 119th birth anniversary of Swahid Kushal Konwar on 21st March 2023 for his long term contribution to various fields of cultural and social life of Dibrugarh. His contributions to the field of literature brought him ‘Seuji Prag Jyotish Samman-2022’ given by Mahiyashi Seuji Sahitya Manch, for his impeccable contribution to the field of literature. Famous International Tourism Agency ‘The Quest’ honoured Dr Saikia as ‘Most Enthusiastic Person’ during his Vietnam visit on 27th July 2022. On 8th April 2023 University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya conferred Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia with ‘Academic Leadership Award-2022’ as recognition of his contribution to the field of education. It can be mentioned here that on 21st June 2002 Moranhat Press Club conferred Dr. Saikia with ‘Best Rural Journalism Award’. Dibrugarh district administration organised Dibrugarh District Day on 2nd October 2022 after 51 years. On that occasion the Principal of DHS Kanoi College Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia was felicitated by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Biswajit Pegu, IAS in the presence of Sjt. Rameswar Teli, Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, distinguished litterateur Dr. Nagen Saikia, Sjt. Prasanta Phukan, MLA, Dibrugarh LAC and other distinguished personalities for the up gradation of administrative , academic and technological sectors along with maintaining green and clean environment. He was awarded with ‘Best Principal Performance Award’ on 15th June 2012 by Republic of Seychelles High Commissioner H.E. Waven William on behalf of HEDA, New Delhi.

As a recognition to the tireless, silent and positive efforts of Principal Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia towards the society, historic DHS Kanoi College Students’ Union 2019-20 awarded Dr. Saikia with ‘Hasan Sharif Ahmed Samannoy Award’ in memory of Late Hasan Sharif Ahmed, a former student of DHSK College, former General Secretary, Students’ Union of DHSK College and a legendary figure of Assamese culture and sole associate of estimable artists like Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla and Hemanga Biswas and also the recipient of ‘Natasuryya Phani Sarma Award’. Then Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh Pallav Gopal Jha, IAS said while presenting the award to Dr Saikia on 9th September 2020, that it is a rare example to present such an award to the Principal of a college by the students. President of Students Union Jubin Bura Gohain, General secretary Ankur Moran and other members of Students’ Union and son of Late Hasan Sharif Ahmed Hasan Armaan Ahmed and other family members were present on the occasion.

Due to his continuous contribution to the society Dibrugarh Hindu Milan Mandir presented Dr. Saikia with ‘Pranabananda Manab Sewa Ratna Award’ on 18th February 2019 and NMOPS, New Delhi awarded Dr Saikia with ‘Seuj Ratna’ on 27th February 2021 and one of the distinguished academic and cultural organisation Trihridoy Gusthi of Majuli awarded Dr Saikia with ‘Best Academician Award’ on 10th October 2013. Dr Saikia has also been awarded with ‘International Diploma in Educational Leadership-Higher Education Certificate from SEED. The certificate was signed by Bikas C Sanyal, former higher education in charge of IIEP, UNESCO, Paris.

Before joining in DHSK College Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia was Principal of Majuli College. He was also working as a lecturer at Dispur College, Guwahati and Dibru College, Dibrugarh. Dr Saikia was a researcher on tourism, former treasurer of Dibrugarh Press Club, Founder Vice-president of Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, former General Secretary of Dibrugarh District Journalist’s Association, former Secretary of Dibrugarh Zone, Assam College Teachers Association, former secretary of Dibru College Teachers Association for three terms, former Commission Officer of NCC, Dibru College, former President of Assam Naamghar Ekatrikaran Samiti, Brand Ambassador of Swaccha Bharat Mission (Namaste State), Assam.

Dr Saikia is now the General Secretary of ‘Snehabandhan, Assam’, an International Association of a Global Assamese Community formed on 1st July 2021 to unite the expatriate Assamese form various corners of the world, President for two terms of historic Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha, Vice-president of Bharatiya Itihash Sanmilan, Dibrugarh Branch, founder President of Dibrugarh Chess Club, Vice-president of Assamese Cultural organization ‘Borbheti’, founder President of Dibrugarh Librarians’ Association established in 2022. founder President of ‘Being Bliss’ established in 5th March 2023, active member of a social organisation named ‘Manuhe Manuhar Babe’, Working President of Swahid Kushal Konwar Smriti Raksha Samiti since 4th January 2023, Advisor of Rural Journalists Association, Asom Lekhika Samaj and Mohiyoshi Seuji Sahitya Manch and President of All Assam Satra Mahasabha, Dibrugarh District formed on 28th March 2023.

Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, an eminent social worker of Assam born on 31st July 1967 in Harabari village near Mohanbari of Dibrugarh district. One year after the birth of Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia his family shifted to Padumpathar village of Bijuliban, Philobari of Tinsukia district. His father Late Haripad Saikia and mother Suniti Saikia. He was the fourth son of five brothers and two elder sisters. He did his Primary Schooling from Philobari Bijuliban Padumpathar Primary School and Middle and High School from Philobari M E School and High School respectively. Completed his Graduation (B.Com.) from Doomdooma College (1984-1989) and Post-Graduation (M.Com.) from Gauhati University (1991-1993) and received his Ph.D. from Dibrugarh University in 2007 in Tourism. Dr. Saikia was the first Scholar to receive a Ph.D. Degree in Tourism from Dibrugarh University. During his college days in 1988 Dr Saikia also worked as Teacher in Philobari Girls’ High School and worked in night shifts at Assam Timber Plywood Industry at Rupai, Doomdooma along with continuing his studies during day time at college. On 16th August 1994 Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia joined Commerce Department of Dispur College, Guwahati on temporary basis on Rs 300/- remuneration per month. Then on 31st October 1994 Dr. Saikai joined Dibru College, Dibrugarh as lecturer on Non-sanctioned post on monthly remuneration of Rs. 1000/-. Later on in 1996 he joined Dibru College, Dibrugarh against a permanent position of lecturer. On 4th September 1996 he joined as NCC officer at Dibru College, Dibrugarh and joined the three months PRCN course organised by NCC Officers Ttraining Academy at Nagpur Maharashtra from 20th November 2006 to 17th February 2007.

Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia joined as Principal of Majuli College on 3rd March 2012. Dr. Saikia did all round transformation of the college covering all sectors of Academic, Infrastructural and Administrative area during his three years and three months period at Majuli College. He was one of the modern architects of Majuli College. Under his initiative the founder Principal of Majuli College Atul Chandra Goswami was awarded ‘Siksha Ratna Award’ and the auditorium was named after the first Governing Body President of Majuli College ‘Keshabram Bora Auditorium’ and the library was named in the name of founder Principal ‘Siksha Ratna Atul Chandra Goswami Library’, newly constructed Administrative Building of Majuli named ‘Krishna Kanta Goswami Administrative Building’ he was the founder secretary of Majuli College. The initiative and efforts of Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia gave a modern shape to academic and physical infrastructure of Majuli College.

The Green Club formed by Dr S. K. Saikia is setting exceptional examples through its regular activities towards maintain cleanliness of the campus from 5 am ‘No Sundays, No Holidays, No Summer, No Winter, No Hot, No Cold’ even Covid-19 Pandemic period also clean the college campus regularly. On the recommendation of then Governor of Nagaland and National Brand Ambassador of Swaccha Bharat Mission P B Acharyya, Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia was appointed as the Brand Ambassador of Swachha Bharat Mission (Namaste State) Assam by the Brand Ambassador of Swaccha Bharat Mission of North East India and Sikkim Satai Kri. At that time Mr. Kri was the Advisor of the Chief Minister Arunachal Pradesh.

Amidst his busy schedule Dr Saikia is regularly involved in column writing in various newspapers and magazines. These are- ‘Oronge-Doronge’ in Dainik Bhumiputra, Nepathya Swar in Dainik Agradoot, ‘Nepathya Bhasan’ in Dainik Pratikhyan, ‘Prante-Prante’ in Saptahik Asomiya, ‘Jatrar Batot’ in Dainik Bartaman, ‘Nepathya Chinta’ in Dainik Agradoot, ‘Tuka Bahi Majuliye Ringiyai’ in Arunodoi Sangbaad, ‘Aajir Chinta’ in Asomor Janamat, ‘Tikhna Drishti’ in Arunodoi Sangbad, ‘ Janamat’ in UA TV, and ‘Swar- Byanjan’ in Sunday edition of Agradoot and ‘Jivan Bahir Sur’ in Popular Assamese daily Asom Aditya. Dr Saikia also regularly uploads thought provoking videos of speech titled as ‘Life Talk Series’ through his YouTube Channel. He also takes part in various national and international conferences and symposiums.

Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia is honoured with appreciations, awards and certificates by more than 100 organisations as recognition of his achievements and services to the society; Dr Saikia is Life Member of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Red Cross Society, Aranyak, Milanjyoti Sangha, Assam Science Society, Navarupa Sangha, and Asom Lokasanskriti Sanstha. Dr. Saikia is currently acting as a member of various bodies of different colleges and organizations. Dr Saikia has visited many countries of Europe (French, Netherland, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland) and Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand etc. as part of Leadership Development Programme. Dr. Saikia also joined ‘Chengdu Dialog’ at China in 2018. Along with various social activities Dr. Saikia is very generous in financial and other support to the poor, underprivileged and needy people and associations of society. Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia is very keen in supporting the various organisations and associations of the society, to name a few of his financial support are two lakh rupees to Assamese Department of DHS Kanoi College, one lakh rupees for the development of Majuli College, Fifty thousand rupees to Auniati University established under the aegis of Auniati Satra etc.

Assam state’s popular social worker and adept Column Writer in various vernacular daily newspapers. He had an illustrious career and has contributed immensely to the state’s up-gradation in the area of higher education and learning.

During the time of the COVID-19 lockdown days he had composed more than 21 poems related to the prevailing situation of Corona Virus pandemic. His poems are being admired a lot by the people and these poems have been now recited and uploaded in his YouTube channel.

He is very active in his Youtube Channel where he not only uploads his various poems, and other activities but, also many videos related to his Life Talk Series.

He has done his schooling from Bijulibon Padum Pather L.P. School, Phillobari M.E. School, and Phillobari High School, Tinsukia District, Assam. He had also worked under a contractor for about an year at Torani Resrve Forest, Philobari during his school days at the time of Assam Agitation in the year 1981.

He also used to give ‘Pan Shops’ and sell Paan & areca nuts during his young early days at the weekly markets held on every Wednesdays and Saturdays at Philobari. He also used to sell his organic farm produced vegetables at the weekly markets at Pengeri every Sundays. This was in brief how he used to carry out the expenses for his dedicated studies.

During his early college days he also used to provide tuition to school students to bear his study expenses.

He studied in Doomdooma College, Tinsukia to attain his H.S. and B.Com (1984-1990), and completed his M.Com. from Gauhati University during the session from 1991-1993. He got highest marks in his specialized Group Management and was awarded a seperate certificate for that by the HOD of Commerce, Guwahatai University. He worked for a few months as an assistant teacher at Philobari Girls High School in the year 1988. He had also worked few days as a daily casual worker at Assam Timber Plywood Industry, Rupai- Doomdooma. He used to work in night shift and go to college during the day time.  He first joined Dispur College in 16 August 1994 and later on joined as a Non-sanctioned Lecturer of Dibru College, Dibrugarh in 31.10.1994. He joined as a regular lecturer in Dibru College from 1996. He had received the Ph.D. Degree from Dibrugarh University in the year 2007. He was the first Ph. D. holder of Dibrugarh University in Tourism.  He joined as a NCC Officer of Dibru College on 4th September, 1996. He joined PRCN course at Nagpur KAMPTEE at NCC Officers Training Academy from 20 November 2006 to 17 February 2007. He attended many NCC camps in many states of India. He had also worked as a freelance journalist in Dainik Agradoot and other different daily newspapers.

Dr. S.K. Saikia got married on 4th June 2002 with Riju Gogoi. Riju Gogoi is a PWD Junior Engineer. They have one son named Priyanuj Saikia who was born on 30 January 2006.

Riju Gogoi edited Dr. Saikia’s bibliography named “Khoj: Jibanar Khoj” that was first published on 4th June 2009.

He was the Principal of Majuli College from 03.03.2012 to 18.06.2015.

Under his initiative, Atul Chandra Goswami, the founder Principal of Majuli College was honoured with ‘Shiksharatna’. Majuli College auditorium was named ‘Keshabram Borah Memorial Auditorium’, who was the founder of GB Presedent. Newly constructed administrative building was named as “Krishna Kanta Goswami Administrative Building” who was the founder Secretary of GB. The Majuli College library was named ‘Shiksharatna Atul Chandra Goswami Library’.

Dr. S.K. Saikia is well-known as the “Modern Architect of Majuli College” because of his dedication into bringing a modern and drastic development to the Majuli College, and its infrastructure.

Now he is rendering his services as the Principal of DHSK College from 19.06.2015 to till date. He has also contributed a lot of dedication into shaping the various developmental works at DHSK College. He has also expressed about his ongoing journey at DHSK College in his book ‘An Experience of the Principal of DHSK College’.

Various cleanliness works are conducted every morning from as early as 5 am everyday under his guidance inside the College campus. No Holidays! No Sundays! Cleanliness works are conducted everyday and, that too he does this with his utmost dedication as a government servant.

He has gained a great experience as a ‘Column Writer’ & ‘Anchor’ in different media. Arongya Dorangya- in Danik Bhumiputra; Napathya Swar, in Bi Weekly Agradoot; Napathyar Bhakhan, Dainik Pratikhan (Evening Daily); Prante Prante, Weekly Assamese; Jatrar Batat, in Dainik Bortaman (Evening Daily); Napathyar Chinta in Dainik Agradoot; Tuka Bahi Majuliya Ringiyai- Aronudai Sangbad; Ajir Cinta in Axomor Jonomot, Tikhna Drishti in Arunudoi Sangbad, Janamat in UATV, Jibonor Suria Banhi  in Asom Aditya, Swara Biyanjan in Agradoot. He also presented and participated many National and International Seminars and Workshop.

From 1st November 1999 to March 2012, he was a Special Correspondent of vernicular daily Dainik Agradoot. He was the treasurer of Dibrugarh Press Club and office bearer for many years. He was also a office bearer of Greater Dibrugarh Press Club and Dibrugarh District journalists Association for many years.

He has been honored to be a Life Member of various associations like- Assam Sahitya Sabha, Red Cross Society, Aranyak, Milan Jyoti Sangha., Assam Science Society. He is the GB Member of different Colleges. He is already a member of different committees of Dibrugarh University and different colleges of Assam. He has been selected as a Member to visit North India (Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab) by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Govt. of India in 2010. He is the renowned member of ICF and Assam College Principal Council. He was also elected as the President of All Assam Namghar Samnnay Samittee, on January, 2019.

He is the President of Dibrugarh Chess Club. He was also elected as the President of Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha on 28 January 2020.

Under the leadership of Dr. S. K. Saikia Rastriya Swaccha Bharat Puraskar, 2017 was awarded. Felicitation by SOFEC to Dr. S. K. Saikia for his outstanding contribution to DHSK College. National award for Swach Bharat Puraskar to DHSK College by Central Govt. in 2017. For the active involvement of Dr. S.K. Saikia’s the DHSK College, Dibrugarh had received the Swachchhata Puraskar, 2018 by Dibrugarh District Administration and Dibrugarh Municipal Board. Deputy Director General (DDG) NCC has awarded the DHSK College for their meritorious service to the Nation in 2019. He has been felicitated by more than 60 organizations.

Dr. S.K. Saikia had visited different countries of Europe(France, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland), Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmer, Singapore, Malaysia and many more countries to attend leadership Development Programme. Dr. Saikia joined the Chengdo Dialogue at China in 2018. He has also been honored by Deputy Commissioner Dibrugarh Assam on 14.08.2007 for his service to the society. The Quest , a international repute tourism agency has honoured with an appreciation letter.

Dr. S.K. Saikia had edited and authored more than 30 nos. of books both in Assamese and English. He had also edited in many magazines and newspapers present.

Dr. S.K. Saikia was also felicitated by the Central Minister Rameswar Teli for his Social Service for the society in International Women’s Day on 8 March 2020 at the meeting jointly organized by Assam State and Dibrugarh District Swahid Kanaklata Development Committee, Greater Assamese Bengali Development Committee, and by Swami Vivekananda Youth Committee at DMB Auditorium.

Dr. S.K. Saikia was awarded “Seuz Ratna Award” on 27th Feb 2021 by NMOPS National Media Secretary represented by Manjit Patel at DHSK College in the presence of a large gathering. All Green Club Members, Boarders of Boys Hostel, Girls Hostel, and NCC DHSK College have also been honoured with Certificates of Appreciation. It is an honour for Dr. S.K. Saikia and all Green Club Members, NCC, Boys and Girls Hostel boarders for the relentless efforts towards a clean and green environment.
